Parents are ‘crucial’ to young people’s job search, says Keating

The role of parents and teachers will be ‘crucial’ to help unemployed young people find work, according to Denise Keating, chief executive of the Employment Forum on Age and Belief (EFA/EFB).

The role of parents and teachers will be ‘crucial’ to help unemployed young people find work, according to Denise Keating, chief executive of the Employment Forum on Age and Belief (EFA/EFB).

At the fourth event in a series of roundtable discussions held in London yesterday, members of the EFA/EFB, government and employers discussed the problems facing NEETs (16-18-year-olds not in employment, education or training) in entering the workforce. The roundtable was chaired by Recruiter editor DeeDee Doke.

The cuts being made to ‘Connexions’, a careers advice service for 16-19-year-olds run by Directgov, were a prominent concern as was the axing of the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) in January 2011.
