Orion Group engineers new iPhone app

International engineering recruitment agency the Orion Group, based in Scotland, has launched its own iPhone app that allows jobseekers to search its available jobs from around the world.

It spans a number of sectors, from oil & gas and renewables to aerospace and construction-based roles. Orion’s key clients include Shell Expo, BP International, ExxonMobil, Chevron and Total.

Scott Burns-Smith, head of marketing development at Orion Group, told Recruiter that there had been more than 500 downloads of the free app during the first weekend it was available from apps stores, including US, Singapore and Australia sites.

“[Use of] the iPhone is a common day reality and is here to stay,” he said. “A number of people have left very positive feedback. Our app is very simple to use - it does what it is supposed to do: promote our vacancies with ease and allow an easy and fast application process.”

Users can search for roles by keyword and job type, and can view job specifications and also apply online or call a recruitment consultant directly from their iPhone. “It is particularly useful for contractors located off-shore or in many of the overseas locations we operate in who don’t always have immediate access to a Mac or PC but are looking for their next job,” said Duncan Murray, Orion Group IT director.

Alan Savage, Orion Group chairman, said the company was already looking at how it can update the app and hoped to launch similar applications across other mobile devices in the coming months. “Investing in online and multimedia tools is all part of delivering an even better candidate experience and something that the group is focused on for the future.”
