A rebound in the fortunes of the UK recruitment industry will hopefully result in high numbers of recruiters contributing to the One Deal appeal in support of this year’s Red Nose Day, according to Mark Merson, the campaign’s project manager.

The appeal encourages recruiters to donate the proceeds of one deal to Comic Relief, the registered charity that organises Red Nose Day, which this year will be held on 18 March. In its launch year, 2009, the One Deal drive earned just over £2,500.

But Merson, managing director of Merson Palmer Executive Search, hopes to increase that figure significantly in this year’s campaign.

Merson told Recruiter: “Last time, we launched the One Deal in the recession when loads of recruitment companies were going out of business. One Deal means just that: donating the proceeds for one of your deals to Comic Relief to help people. One of their deals will help save lives. Those deals will go a long way.

“Recruiters will know that the success of their company is helping save lives and they will get a certificate from Comic Relief with a specially designed One Deal logo.

“They will be able to carry the One Deal logo on their website, along with an explanation of the charity. Corporate social responsibility is taken more seriously these days. It creates a good impression among clients.

“For six months, recruiters can say they are supporters of the campaign on their website. They can also put the One Deal logo and text on their email signatures as well, and be listed as a donor.”
