More action for tailored video CV

A new piece of video CV technology aims to help candidates enhance their application for a particular job, as well as help publishers and job boards make money from the medium.

Videobuilder Recruit, developed by video technology company Video Direct, differs from most other CV video tools in that it allows a job board to offer individual job ads as ’video-ready’ to an advertiser. And rather than allow a candidate to record a generic CV, it enables them to tailor it to the particular role.

Andrew Petherick, Video Direct’s business development director, told Recruiter what also sets it apart is that the advertiser is given the opportunity to instruct the candidate to tailor the video for that role: “So they could ask that a candidate focuses on talking about their experience in a particular area. It is intended to help the candidate be specific about why they think they are the right person for the role.” Typically, a publisher or job board can subscribe to the technology on a monthly basis (a number of packages are available) and this enables them to add a simple video button to job listings. This can then be offered to advertisers as a premium service.

When the candidate applies, they click a video button to record the 60-second video using their own webcam. They can have as many attempts at recording as they need. Advertisers then receive the recorded video embedded in a branded email from the job board alongside a conventional CV and application.

As well as giving candidates the chance to enhance their application, one of the driving forces behind it is to provide a way for publishers and job boards to earn money from video by adding value for their advertisers.

“There are a lot of video CV collators out there but the publisher or job board can essentially be in competition with them,” said Petherick. “We’re in the business of wholesaling video and have tried to build a system that allows them to capitalise on the growing interest in video CVs in a way that generates revenue and helps them to control the production and distribution of candidate video.”

Video Direct is in discussion with a number of job boards and publishers who run job sites.
