Maturing ski industry sees roles on uphill curve

A rise in unemployment levels in the UK has left more people seeking seasonal jobs at ski resorts, as the Evening Standard reported yesterday.

This includes a rise in older, more experienced applicants, a spokesperson for online recruiter 247recruit.com, operator of ski-jobs.co.uk andresortwork.co.uk, tells Recruiter: “We’ve certainly noticed a higher calibre of people looking to do a seasonal entry-level roles, and we welcome that.

“We’ve been exhibiting at the London Ski Show and Birmingham Ski Show the last two years – it’s actually gone from us having to persuade people not considering it to getting people who are interested having been laid off.”

As mature applicants rise, many graduates have preferred to try to get straight into the job market after university.

There is also increased demand at senior level, the spokesperson says: “There are some companies still trying to recruit senior people to resort management roles – that’s not happened the last couple of years.”

Recruiter also learns that recruitment in this sector has become more sophisticated, with employers increasingly using candidate management software such as Candiman.

“If we had talked to our clients about using a CMS [candidate management system] five years ago, they’d have laughed,” the 247recruit.com spokesperson adds.
