Association of Labour Providers is correct to call for the extension of the Gangmasters Licensing Authority's remit to include industry sectors beyond farming.
The idea of additional regulation and bureaucracy might not appeal to all recruiters who could be affected by such an extension; however, the widely reported cases of migrant worker abuse have done much harm to the industry generally.
As think tank Demos recently pointed out in its 'Recruitment 2020' report, the UK recruitment industry is the least regulated throughout Europe. For better or worse, an industry with greater regulation inspires greater public confidence. And that confidence in our industry is needed here.
