Management drinking

The more you earn, the more you drink, warns study

Women in higher managerial roles are drinking double the amount of their counterparts in routine jobs, according to a Whitehall report released yesterday. The study shows a connection between income and drinking in excess of recommended levels.

Men in managerial or professional jobs also drink more than those in routine jobs, with 44 in a 100 having more than recommended at least once a week compared to 35 in 100 routine or manual jobs.

The government recommends women consume less than 14 units a week and men less than 21. A unit is equivalent to a pint of beer or a small glass of wine.
