George Henderson finds companies struggle to retain staff
Almost 90% of HR directors in the logistics sector believe they will not be able to rely on the loyalty of their workforce in the future, according to research by supply chain specialist George Henderson Recruitment.

The research revealed that there has also been a growing acceptance among the industry’s workforce that career success is based on moving from employer to employer, rather than developing a career with the one business. This gradual change in employee attitude has created challenges for employers looking to retain or recruit staff.

Henderson managing director, Mark Botham, says: “There are many factors contributing to the state of flux in the industry. There are worries over long-term job security, with factors such as mergers and acquisitions playing a part. Even though positions are actually safe, the ongoing drive to reduce costs and to sweat assets creates constant pressures. Conversely, the development of specialist divisions and the influx of overseas businesses into the UK’s transport industry has created extra career opportunities.”
