The UK managing director of Kelly Services, Chris Moore, has told Recruiter his company would back moves to make recruitment a chartered profession.

Moore insisted his company would give full backing to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's (REC) acting chief executive, Helen Reynolds, who is currently looking at the best path for recruitment to achieve chartered status.

"Our biggest rivals, certainly in the local market, are those consultants who have left an employer to set up on their own," said Moore.

"There's no barriers to entry and [chartered status] would be one of the things which could clean the industry up," he said.

In the US, Kelly has lobbied on areas of employment law to promote positive change for the recruitment industry. While Moore contends that the REC is best placed to carry out this role over here, he said he would be "prepared to get involved" in any drive towards chartered status.
