Interview process

Research reveals applicants hide their personalities in interviews

Nearly half of job applicants believe the interview process fails to reveal their true personality, according to a poll by business psychology experts OPP.

The research showed many people adapt the way they present themselves to a prospective employer in order to "fit in".

Of those that put on a false persona at interview, a third said they project a very different personality to their true one.

Richard McHenry, of OPP, says: "If people fake it to try and fit in, it can lead to major problems down the line – particularly if the true personality that emerges later is not best suited to the team, role and organisation."

The report also showed that, according to their employees, almost half of bosses conceal their real nature during interviews.
