Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has criticised indigenisation laws, saying they will not solve the country’s unemployment crisis, reports the Zimbabwe Metro.

Foreign companies are now required by law to allow at least 51% of their operations to be controlled by nationals, in a move that President Robert Mugabe said will help boost employment in the country’s black population.

According to the Metro, Tsvangirai told supporters at a rally: “Jobs are not created by forcibly taking over part of established companies, but by ensuring that there are more companies opening.

“Most of our young people have crossed the borders to get jobs, yet ZANU-PF [Mugabe’s party] is destroying industries.”
