INTERNATIONAL South Africa: 11m jobs by 2030 is no magic bullet
South Africa’s national development plan suggests the country can create 11 million new jobs by 2030, according to news site iafrica.com.
South Africa’s national development plan suggests the country can create 11 million new jobs by 2030, according to news site iafrica.com.
The plan also shows that job creation is not a magic bullet for greater prosperity, with the plan’s vision statement saying: “The things that drive growth are not always the things that drive job creation – and the things that are good for job creation are not always good for growth.”
The ambitious plan would increase overall employment from 13m today to nearly double that - 24m within two decades, reducing unemployment from 27% to 6%, according to iafrica.com.
As Recruiter.co.uk reported 3 November, unemployment dropped by 1% in Q2 2011.
The development plan also says that a more open approach to immigration and making it easier to fire people would benefit the nation and its job creation plan.
