INTERNATIONAL Ireland: First month-on-month job rise in seven months
New jobs in the Republic of Ireland are on the up, according to the Irish Employment Monitor published by multi-sector recruiter Morgan McKinley.
The number of new jobs available in October (8,353) in the Republic is both 11% higher than the previous month and 34% higher than in the same month in 2010.
The number of people seeking a job remained almost identical month-on-month, but decreased from 11,115 in October 2010 to 10,105 last month.
Karen O’Flaherty, chief operations officer of Morgan McKinley, says: “Anecdotal evidence suggests that the only sector not optimistic about increasing company headcounts in 2012 is financial services. […] That said, there is still some movement in the sector: as budgets close for the year, some companies are anxious to secure talent where needed.
“October 2011 also saw increased hiring activity in the areas of R&D, supply chain management, change management and manufacturing.
“Investment prospects for the country — especially in the life sciences, medical devices and financial services sectors — are strong.”
