INTERNATIONAL Arabian Gulf: No foreign workers before nationals

The Gulf Cooperation Council is looking to control the recruitment of foreign workers to ensure nationals in the respective nations do not lose out on job opportunities, reports ArabNews.com.

“Recruitment of foreign workers is a complementary factor and not an alternative to employing nationals,” said a statement released by the labour ministers of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudia Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

The statement continues: “No foreigner should be employed in a job except after making sure there is no qualified national to take up that vacancy.”

As Recruiter reported last week, a programme of ‘job Saudization’ will mean all private sector companies in Saudia Arabia with fewer than nine employees will be forced to bring in one Saudi worker or be excluded from bringing in foreign labour.
