Incompetent teachers

Recruitment’s role to root out incompetent teachers

With thousands of incomptent teachers quitting their posts rather than face disciplinary action, a leading recruitment firm has called for consultants to make sure they place the right teacher in the right role.
The Policy Exchange has discovered that the General Teaching Council for England had only judged 46 teachers incompetent since 2001 even though it claims that around 17,000 could be deemed not fit for the role.
Select Education has apportioned blame to recruitment consultants that do not do enough to place suitable teachers in the correct role.

John Dunn, director at Select Education said: “Even with anecdotal evidence to suggest less competent teachers are leaving the profession before they are disciplined, it would appear there are a number of these teachers in schools. It is the responsibility of those who place teachers to ensure they are fully competent in the role, be that for short term, long term or permanent positions.”
