Report finds third of workers are not happy at work and that this can influence performance

A third of employees are not happy at work, which is bad news because 86% of employees believe their performance is linked to their mood, according to a report by business psychologists Pearn Kandola.

The survey shows that the behaviour of managers is key to employees' emotional state, 29% said that their manager showed insufficient interest in them, and 42% complained that they do not receive enough recognition from their manager.

The report says the top five things that make people happy at work are achieving results, good colleagues, receiving praise, undertaking challenging work and making progress.

It also said that the top five things that make people unhappy at work are high workloads, poorly performing colleagues, poor leadership, failure to achieve results and office politics.
