Increase in green collar workers

Green collar workers are on the increase, new research claims.

The research, from computer firm Fujitsu Siemens, shows that just over half of employees (51%) regularly lobby their employer for more green practices and procedures, while 80% of British workers think they are more environmentally aware today than they were three years ago.

The research also shows 92% of workers now recycle waste and 71% of British employees now switch off their PCs when they leave at night.

Steve Kendall-Smith, managing director UK at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, said: “Since we created the term ‘Green Collar Worker’ back in 2004, it’s pleasing to see that the expression is now being adopted widely by a number of people, including government ministers. Our research shows that the gap between how green we are at home and how green we are at work is certainly closing. We hope that the increased lobbying from this now well-established group of ‘Green Collar Workers’ can only help to continue to make many more UK businesses greener places to work in the future.”
