Glasgow is top for call centres_2
Glasgow’s call centre industry has grown year on year, with more than 160 companies operating centres in or around the city, according to new figures from Office Angels.
It found more than 60,000 people are working in call centres across Scotland, with more than 20,000 of them employed within call centres in the Glasgow area alone.
It says the boom is being driven by an increasing customer dissatisfaction with the service offered by foreign call centres and also because businesses are recognising the calming and trust-building effect the Glaswegian accent has on their customers.
Fraser McLeod, operations manager of Office Angels, says: “The perception of call centre work doesn’t match the reality. It’s a dynamic industry that’s evolving rapidly, and the right individual can progress quickly, with lucrative rewards. Glasgow is the UK’s call centre hub and for people looking for a new challenge, opportunities abound.”
