Gangmaster warning for recruiters_2
Recruiters have until 1 September to get their applications in for a Gangmasters Licence to ensure they meet the 1 October deadline. That’s the warning from the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA).
Anyone who supplies workers to agriculture, horticulture and food and drink processing and packaging will face up to 10 years in prison and a £5,000 fine if they do not have a licence by 1 October.
GLA chairman Paul Whitehouse (pictured) says: “We are here to protect workers from exploitation by licensing those who supply them and ensuring they meet strict standards. Those who refuse to meet those standards will be dealt with.
“We are determined to make a difference. We shall help bona fide labour providers stay legal by driving out those who undercut them by exploiting workers, by mistreating them and exploit the public by not paying their taxes.”
The GLA says its enforcement officers are now operating in the UK, gathering and following up intelligence. Once the offence becomes active they will begin investigating, interviewing and entering relevant premises by warrant if necessary.
