Fish4jobs achieved 2.8m unique users, compared with Monster.co.uk's 2.7m, Guardian Jobs' 1.1m and eFinancialCareers.com's 1m unique users.

The survey of 27 leading job boards revealed that a majority of jobseekers found the job board they were using through a search engine, via a link on another website or through word of mouth.

A majority of job board users live in England, although 3,694 were based in EU countries other than the UK and 769 users were based outside the EU. Most jobseekers were listed as being British, Irish or other European.

NORAS found that the South-East has the highest number of online jobseekers, followed by the North-West, Scotland and the South-West.

London was the city with the most online jobseekers, followed by Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.

A majority of online jobseekers are seeking permanent work. Most describe themselves as an employee. The second most popular description was junior or middle manager. Online jobseekers mostly earn between £10,000 to £29,999.

It found the majority of online jobseekers are between 16 and 34, the average age of jobseekers across all job boards is 37.

Most online jobseekers use the internet every day or most days, it found.
