Extra holiday

Petition calls for another Bank Holiday

Over 500,000 people are calling on the government to create an extra Bank Holiday.

More than half a million people signed a petition being handed into Downing Street today asking for an extra day off work, which has been supported by trade unions, politicians and other groups.

The petition was organised by holiday firm Thomas Cook.

Spokesman Simon Carter said: "Public opinion is clearly in favour of this and we are hoping that the Prime Minister will take note of the positive benefits.

"We felt it was important to present our petition at a point when the groundswell was gathering momentum."
