Executives need to change presenteeism attitudes

I read your article on recruiter.co.uk ’Senior executives dissatisfied with work-life balance’ (22 July). This research comes as no surprise and shows similar results to a recent survey by the CIPD.

There is a huge body of evidence that when the conflict between work and life is reduced performance is increased. Similarly there is much research that shows that long hours and presenteeism reduce performance. Yet why is it that we still maintain the perception that our careers depend on hours worked?

This survey is about senior executives, those people that are in a position to challenge the culture of their organisation. Yet this survey shows that behaviour just perpetuates the myth of presenteeism.

What do we need to do to enable our senior executives to come out for balance and high performance?
