Emerging markets to boost UK recruitment, says Ellis

Recruitment in the UK will be boosted by the expansion of professional services firms in emerging markets, according to Albert Ellis, chief executive at Harvey Nash.

Ellis was commenting on the latest CBI/Harvey Nash Employment Trends Survey which shows growth in the number of businesses operating a recruitment freeze has fallen from a peak of 61% in spring 2009 to 7% this autumn, with organisations implementing freezes concentrated in the public sector and construction.

The survey also shows that firms remain cautious on hiring in the year ahead, with 23% planning targeted recruitment in areas including management, technical and sales. A fifth (21%) plan to add staff in some parts of the business and cut headcount elsewhere.
