Bus company FirstGroup is showing television shows to its new Polish drivers to help them understand the UK's regional accents.

The Aberdeen-based firm, which now has 1,000 Polish drivers working across Britain, is airing programmes including Only Fools and Horses and Coronation Street at its training centre in Poland.

The staff are are shown different shows to reflect where they will be posted. For example, a recruit going to Glasgow may see a DVD of Billy Connolly, while someone heading to the English capital may see an episode of much-loved sitcom Only Fools and Horses, set in the London borough of Peckham.

"It is solely about helping new recruits get to grips with different regional UK accents, it is not a cultural exercise," said a spokesman.
