Diary of ..._2

Today we welcomed five new team members, one a familiar face, Katie Brown, returning after a brief stint with one of our rivals. It's nice to know she missed us! My day was focused on training, as I deliver the induction to new starters. Tonight was the Market Research Society Awards dinner. Market research is one of the largest sectors we operate in and this year we were the principal sponsors of the event. Our team hosted a table full of clients and the wine flowed until the early hours!
Tuesday
Morning appointment with the designer of our new offices in Waterloo - the big move is in March 2007. Next I met the editor of a key trade magazine to discuss future editorial activity (and catch up on the gossip from the previous evening!). The day finishes with yet another late evening as I attend an Elton John AIDS Foundation Event — all in the name of charity, of course!
Wednesday
Today was a planning day. I met with my operations director, Sinead Hasson, to discuss our recruitment strategy for 2007. This meeting was productive, but consumed most of the morning. The afternoon was dedicated to a client meeting at Ernst & Young to discuss their current recruitment activity.
Thursday
We are exhibiting at the Insight Show and Online Information Show — both events that focus on our areas of expertise. We spent the day ensuring all details were finalised. At one of the shows we will deliver our ""career strategy"" game show, called Careers Fortunes (based on Family Fortunes). The team had some fun during a brief rehearsal. I spent the early evening with our accountant doing the weekly update — in need of a large vodka at the end of it!
Friday
Early start to finalise the preparation for our strategic review with the Board of Business Advisors, which includes well known industry figures John O'Sullivan (recruitment) and Andy Dexter (market research). This was an in-depth meeting full of debate on how to move the business forward — lots to think about at the weekend! Friday always finishes well, with team drinks in a Covent Garden bar.
