Adecco has joined the business names welcoming the introduction of a new GCSE qualification in construction and the built environment to tackle the skills shortage in the UK.

Rene Schuster, Adecco Group chief executive, says:“Education is an important part of shaping an individuals career. If schools can provide a more varied curriculum, offering pupils the opportunity to try new types of jobs before they enter the world of work, this will encourage more people to enter vocational careers. This will help to close the skills gap we are currently experiencing in the UK and help build a more diverse workforce for the future.”

Last week former CBI director general Digby Jones commended its introduction.
