City HR recruitment resumes

HR recruitment to the financial services sector is starting to move again following autumn’s banking crisis, according to recruiters.

In multi-sector Badenoch & Clark’s ‘Professional talent spotlight’ for July 2009, Guy Emmerson, associate director, human resources, Badenoch & Clark, said: “Though HR recruitment is still at a low, we are seeing organisations start to lift their recruitment freezes and make budget available for business critical hires.

“The private sector, including banking and financial services, is leading the way as firms begin to prepare for the upturn.”

Hugo Tucker, director at Bullet Search, adds: “I would say that some of the leading players in financial services are beginning to recruit. They were always looking for replacements, but recently we have seen some developmental and expansion positions. There is defintely more movement which creates vacancies and opportunities.

“I took on a head of HR shared services for one of the major investment banks this morning.”

Skill-based hiring can have ugly consequences – what can go wrong?

Skill-based hiring (SBH) is a hiring strategy that focuses on recruiting and selecting candidates based primarily on their demonstrated ability to perform each skill required for the position.
