Most City financial professionals and lawyers (73%) think that they have performed above their current role and want recognition for what they have achieved, according to research from finance and accountancy recruiter Joslin Rowe.

The poll of 571 professional bankers, lawyers and accountants in London, also found that 70% had taken on more technically demanding responsibilities that redundant colleagues had left behind. More than eight in 10 (81%) gained more experience and a wider skill set during the recession than at any time in the boom years.

Joslin Rowe, the UK financial services recruitment arm of Randstad, labels this new generation ‘Generation R’. Joslin Rowe managing director, Tara Ricks, says: “Filled with confidence as to their own abilities and what they can offer, ‘Generation R’ has high expectations as to what their next move should be.

“Generation R candidates are also now far more attracted to interim/change manager roles as opposed to the more usual permanent progression opportunities. 90% of those professionals we polled said they want to pursue a career with an element of change, project management or restructuring - a reflection of the skills they have harnessed over this turbulent period.”
