Christmas bonus
Workers are 'quids in' this Christmas, thanks to the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA).
Staff have been granted more than £26,000 in holiday arrears by Pride Management Services Ltd of Southall after an inspection by the GLA found the money was owing when the firm applied for its licence.
To be granted a GLA Licence gangmasters (labour providers) must comply with UK employment law to protect the interests of workers among other things. In order to operate legally in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, shellfish gathering, food and drink processing and packaging, all gangmasters must be licensed by the GLA.
The inspection revealed workers had not been paid holiday pay but thanks to Pride Management’s eagerness to comply with GLA regulations, the workers have been granted the money due.
GLA chairman, Paul Whitehouse, said: “This is exactly the type of result that the GLA seeks. We recognise that not all labour providers understand every aspect of employment law, and we don’t penalise those who get it wrong if they rectify matters immediately.”
