A new product launched by the British Computer Society (BCS) aims to help businesses create clearer IT job descriptions and raise standards within the industry.

IT Job Describer aims to identify skills, training and experience against the recognised benchmark of the SFIAplus IT skills training and development standard. Users can create job descriptions covering a wide range of sectors and levels. Each one can be customised to suit individual businesses.

SFIAplus Version 3 has been adopted by companies such as Norwich Union, Deloitte and ITV.

“Job titles are a problem,” said Ann Swain, chief executive of IT recruitment industry body ATSCo. “IT Job Describer could be a huge benefit. It will help with standardisation.”
