Global executive search consulting firm, Spencer Stuart, has promoted Simon Fenton to chairman of its Greater China operations.

Fenton was head of Spencer Stuart’s business in the growth markets of Brazil, India and China, as well as its global industry and functional practices, and has relocated to Hong Kong. He was previously based in the UK.

The search firm says the move not only reflects the growing importance of Asia to a wide range of multinational businesses but also the growing talent demands that many of the region’s domestic companies are now facing. Fenton will also assume broader management responsibilities.

Fenton says: “From Hong Kong I will also be able to spend more time with our clients in the region and play a more direct role in the development of our business in China. We currently have long-established offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, and a growing team of consultants with deep expertise in the leadership needs across virtually all major industries. Our intention is to continue to build our profile across Greater China significantly.”

Before assuming the role of managing director, strategic markets and practices for Spencer Stuart in 2010, Fenton led Spencer Stuart’s business across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. Previously, he led the firm’s UK business.

He is a member of Spencer Stuart’s management team and also of the firm’s financial services practice, where he focuses mainly on senior-level appointments within asset management and wealth management, as well as other sectors within the practice. Fenton is also a member of the firm’s board services practice.
