Agency siege

Siege at Welsh driving recruitment firm

A man was killed and three others injured following an armed siege at the offices of a driving recruitment firm in Pontypool, South Wales.

A 52-year-old man was arrested following the incident in which a middle-aged man was killed at staffing firm Driverline 247’s offices.

Armed officers were called to the scene where four people were believed to have been taken hostage early yesterday afternoon.

A Gwent police spokesman told Recruiter that the 52 year old man was still in custody, had not been charged and was still being questioned. Two of the three injured in the incident had been taken to Royal Gwent Hospital, but have now been released. The spokesman added that the third person were kept in hospital but was stable and not in a life-threatening condition. Crime officers are still on the scene to carry out investigations and the deceased will be named later today.

The driving recruitment firm was set up in 2000 and recruits HGV and van drivers.
