Survey reveals unhappiness with salary and boredom are key reasons for wanting a new job

Around 60% of employees are actively looking for new positions according to research by online learning provider SkillSoft.

It found 59% of employees confess to checking job listings and job websites while at work and 19% have their details registered with a recruitment agency, headhunter or online job service.  It found 41% already have an up-to-date CV ready to go.

The survey found that 26% plan to stay in their current job for less than 12 months, with a further 24% saying they will leave their existing employer within one to two years.

When probed as to the reasons for this the top answers were: I don't earn enough money (23%), I'm bored with my job (19%), and the work I do isn't appreciated (18%).

Kevin Young, general manager of SkillSoft, says: "It's disturbing to see that half of those employees interviewed are only planning to stay in their current roles for a maximum of two years. These findings will disappoint those responsible for recruitment and retention.

"To help counteract this, organisations must ensure that their managers are more effective and that their employees feel appreciated and valued. This reinforces the widespread need for ongoing training in management and communication skills," he adds.
