Retailer Poundland’s new store opening in Walsall attracted 500 jobseekers for 20 positions, Metro reports this morning.

However a spokesperson for the company told Recruiter this is not unusual “We normally get around that volume of applications as we are one of only a few retailers still creating new jobs through our store openings.”

According to Metro, the company conducted 125 interviews for the near-minimum wage roles, telling Recruiter it advertised through Job Centre Plus and two charities that help people with disabilities into employment - Shaw Trust and Remploy.
