Youth shortage on horizon

Young workers will ask for more
The number of workers under 25 will fall dramatically over the next 15 years – forcing employers into a recruitment battle for school leavers and college graduates.
A report by the City & Guilds of London Institute said that the shortage of younger workers would lead to them asking for greater status and higher wages, as well as direct access to more senior posts.
At the same time, older workers will be forced to work longer as pension pressures mount, said City & Guilds.
“As young talent becomes scarcer, employers will need to radically re-think their recruitment and management strategies, focusing on empowerment and respect of young workers,” commented Chris Humphries, the director-general of City & Guilds.
