Tsunami relief continues

Industry maintains generosity

The recruitment industry is continuing to pour money into the relief efforts for the victims of the tsunami disaster.

Global recruiter Manpower has pledged to construct a vocational training centre in the Tamil Nadu state in India, where an estimated 6,000 people died.

Manpower chairman Jeffrey Joerres said: “Since the disaster struck, we have researched many potential activities to help people in the affected countries.”

Newport-based recruiter Acorn will donate its revenue from supplying staff to last Saturday’s tsunami relief concert at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

Maria Evans, Acorn’s director of operations, said: “Ours is a gesture from the entire company that I hope will help to boost the amount of money raised at the concert by a significant amount.”

The Recruitment Society also donated the entrance fees from its January meeting. Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, said: “I had a client contact and a candidate out there.”

Eurosource, which specialises in running charity recycling appeals, has pledged to recycle old mobile phones and printer cartridges.
