Trapped at work

Half of Britons can't find new work

Nearly half of Britain’s working population feel trapped in their jobs and many have made it a New Year’s resolution to find new employment.

According to a study from Pitman Training, 47% of Britons think they are in a career dead end and 13% plan to get a new job in the new year.

The survey showed there was a rise in work dissatisfaction but employees feel trapped because they do not have the right skills to get out of their current position.

Employers can expect to see the greatest movement in London, where a fifth of workers plan to change job.

Wales and Scotland have the most stable working population, with less than 10% planning to move.

Pitman surveyed 1,000 adults over 16 years old in December 2002.
