Tesco targets students
Tesco has launched a recruitment scheme aimed at young people aged 16-24, designed by students who work for the supermarket.
The scheme, called Debut, has been conceived to help young people get the most out of working and includes a flexible working package which will allow students to work at their local Tesco store.
Tesco promises holders of a Debut pass that it will allow students to work at any store in the UK in return for a pledge of loyalty.
Holders are guaranteed minimum annual hours and pay, allowing students to plan their finances while studying.
There is also a ‘clearing house’ which allows students to do a hassle-free job swap between their home and university stores.
Students have the option of training and development and can gain fast-track entry to the Tesco graduate scheme.
And there’s a ‘Save as you Study’ scheme which aims to ease the problem of student debt, where scholars put aside a proportion of their income, which is then topped up by Tesco and held in a savings account until the end of the course.
Clare Chapman, Tesco’s HR director, said: “Debut is an industry-first and has been developed by students for young people in education. It focuses on helping students to succeed at work and at their studies.
“We hope that we can lead the way in showcasing the excellent career opportunities for young people in the retail sector.”
