Temp staff get REC accolades

Temporary Workers Week initiative

The best temps in the nation will receive recognition for their hard work in trade body the REC’s Temporary Workers Week.

The aim of the initiative, which runs from 6 to 10 June, is to recognise the contribution temps make to the UK economy, helping companies operate and performing essential roles in public services.

Agencies across the country will host weird and wonderful events to reward their temps’ achievements. Last year agencies did everything from sending thank you cards to delivering breakfast to their workers.

As part of the initiative the REC will run an awards ceremony at the House of Commons on 8 June for the nation’s top-performing temps.

The winners of each category have been decided and the ceremony will reveal the overall winner.

Finalists include Aimee Rowlands (pictured), winner of Office Worker of the Year, who started temping with Cardiff’s Celtic Resource Management three years ago. After landing her first role at a local hospital, Aimee decided to train as a doctor and now combines temping with medical studies.

The other finalists include interim manager Robert Barnard, locum radiographer Kelvin Hiscoke, supply teacher Peter Dickinson, driver Tom Laird and industrial sector worker Dennis Mallinson.
