How much of an advantage is it to have worked 'operationally' in an industry or is it more advantageous to have worked in another area of recruitment?
Our approach at Rockpools is to work in teams. The talents, knowledge and, yes, contacts, that each team member brings from their life and work experience will go into the mix. Our team will be equipped with people who know the jargon, trends and dynamics of the industry or specialism they are recruiting to. But equally important is to attract and test people's values, drive, passion and all the other attributes that will ensure the hire is going to excel. The more recruiters work together to understand the talents of candidates, the better the result.

The ideal consultant would have both industry and recruitment experience. However, this is very rare. In my view, experienced recruiters who are bright, ambitious and ask good questions find it easier to acquire the subject matter knowledge, rather than taking individuals from industry and developing them into high quality recruitment talent.

Three quarters of our staff at Leisurejobs.co.uk have either worked in the leisure industry or are dedicated to leisure pursuits. I believe this is of enormous value for niche job boards like ours, providing candidates and clients with recruitment staff who have a direct understanding of the industry with an active insight into jobs in this sector. Their own experiences can provide new business leads and ideas to further Leisurejobs.co.uk's growth. Leisurejobs itself was created through the use of my own experience, knowledge and contacts as a professional tennis player and tennis coach.
