Significant lies on CVs

Research reveals the extent of lies and omissions by jobseekers on their CVs

One in five (20%) of CVs submitted for job applications include significant omissions, such as County Court Judgements, not declaring directorships and claiming academic qualifications the applicant doesn’t have, according to a study by The Risk Advisory Group.

It found other inaccuracies ranged from discrepancies in employment and academic dates to bankruptcy and other credit infringements.

Sal Remtulla, head of employee screening for The Risk Advisory Group, says: “This year’s results have yet again brought to our attention how unscrupulous candidates can be when applying for jobs, and highlight their apparent lack of conscience towards potential new employers. The serious nature of these discrepancies emphasis the need for heightened attention during the recruitment process.”
