Rowing for gold

Recruitment consultant's boating challenge

A recruitment consultant has taken part in the world’s toughest rowing race.

Alasdair McGregor, 26, is employed at Meridian Business Support's recruitment’s Bristol Branch.

He and 24 year old rowing partner Andrew Vinsen finished fourth in the Woodvale Atlantic Challenge 2003.

The pair were the youngest team in the race and were competing against 19 other teams from the UK and other countries.

They rowed for 50 days at sea from the Canary Islands to Barbados in a 24 foot plywood craft, sponsored by Meridian Business Support.

McGregor and Vinsen rowed for 24 hours a day, taking it in turns to row two hour shifts, braving massive waves and travelling for 2,900 miles.

The event raised cash for the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation, an international charity trying to find a cure for the disease.
