Retirement plans postponed

Executives looking to work longer

Executives are increasingly planning to work on past pensionable age, according to a new global survey conducted by headhunter Korn/Ferry International.

Nearly half (44%) of almost 2,000 executives who responded said that they plan to continue working past the age of 64, with 15% of them intending to work past the age of 70.

The majority (62%) of them are planning to work longer than they thought they would three years ago.

Worryingly, 60% believed that their employers have inadequate benefits programs.

Giles Crewdson, managing director of Korn/Ferry UK, said: “It has been well documented in recent years that there have been strains placed on the retirement savings of all types of employees, including executives.

“While this in itself will not solve the pending demographic shortfall of talent, it will provide organisations with more opportunity to leverage senior talent and migrate institutional knowledge to younger workers.”

Respondents from nearly 100 countries replied to the survey.
