Recruiter’s £500 gumball rally
John Docherty (pictured) has become the recruitment industry’s equivalent of Burt Reynolds after competing in a 4,000-mile rally from Paris to Morocco last month.
The team leader from CBSbutler took part in this year’s Gumball Rally in his customised Citroen 2CV, known as ‘The General’ after the famous car in TV’s Dukes of Hazzard.
Despite the fact his car’s top speed is just 60mph, he managed to keep up with Ferraris, Porsches and Lamborginis by cutting back on sleep. Those worried about the health and safety aspect of the race will be pleased to note that Docherty and co-driver Gary Lutke took it in turns driving during the six-day race.
This won them the ‘Spirit of the Gumball’ award for the most fun entry and raised £500 for a children’s charity. Unfortunately The General is now the worse for wear and is with mechanics.
