REC aims to be 'chartered'
Recruiters could soon be able to call themselves 'chartered' in the same way as accountants, surveyors or qualified managers, if a move by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is successful.
Although at a very early stage, the organisation is hoping to apply for chartered status to attract more people into the industry and boost professional standards.
If successful, fully qualified REC members might ultimately be able to call themselves a chartered fellow - gaining a title recognised by clients, industry and the business world.
REC director of external affairs Tom Hadley said the process was long-term, but if successful, would be a major coup for recruiters.
“It's a logical aim for the recruitment industry. This could be a massive step change in the way the sector is perceived,” he said.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development was granted similar status for its members in 2003.
