Prolonging Olympic effect
Recruiters operating in the construction sector have launched an effort to ensure that the employment benefits London gains through the 2012 Olympics continue long after the games have ended.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation Construction Sector Group has founded the Sustainable Employment Legacy Forum (SELF) to focus on the potential workforce living in some of London's poorest boroughs.
SELF's key aims will be:
* Early introduction into the construction industry
* Supporting apprenticeships in construction
* Skills transfer into the construction industry
* Encouraging workplace diversity in construction
* Managing migrant labour
Trevor Rees of Malla Construction is chairing the REC's Construction Sector Group, which was formally launched, along with SELF, on 23 Feb on HMS Belfast.
