All recruitment advertisements could be required to display a combined salary figure that includes employers’ pension contributions, if radical new proposals are accepted by MPs.

The legal plans, put forward by former pensions minister John Denham, are designed to combat the trend of employers cutting pension provisions to compete with rival companies when recruiting.

Denham said the proposals, if introduced, could provide a useful recruitment tool for employers with good pension provisions, while encouraging companies with less impressive schemes to improve.
