Office party troubles

Poll reveals workers have resigned by text after a boozy Christmas party

Office Christmas parties can lead to much more than just a sore head, the results of an online poll by FollowUs have found.

The research found 27% say or do something to a colleague they later regret, 4% claim to have resigned via an SMS message, and 6% have become the victims of threatening behaviour.

It also revealed that 11% of people lost personal items at their Christmas event. Underwear was the fourth most misplaced item, after mobile phones (34%) and purse/wallets (23%). The probability of losing something more than tripled for those that drink too much compared to those that do not.

Kevin Brown, commercial director of FollowUs, says: “The end of year should be a time for good cheer but when good spirits verge on the irresponsible then employees and employers should take note. The fall-out can be considerable.”
According to the poll 35% have had problems making it home – of which over 8% ended up more than 50 miles away from home (16% over 30 miles).
