Multi adds up costs of acquisition spree
Multi Group’s results for the six months to 31 December are the story of a group in transition.
Executive chairman Oliver Cooke said the period had been “one of intense activity”. A former tool hire business, Surrey-based Multi now focuses on recruitment in the medical and care sectors.
Among Multi’s acquisitions during the period was Global Medics in December. Global supplies consultants and senior grade doctors to the NHS and private sector. The deal included Global’s newly-acquired subsidiary Doctors on Call. It was Multi’s fourth acquisition since March 2005.
The results were affected by the poor performance of Berry Recruitment, which it has now sold off (Recruiter, 5 April).
Total turnover was £8.28m, up from £832,000 from the same period a year ago. The operating loss narrowed to £634,000, from £1.23m. The three principal businesses are now Global Medics, TLP, which provides a range of allied health professionals, and Berry Medical, which provides unskilled and semi-skilled care staff.
Multi has now changed its year-end date and the next results will cover the 15 months to 31 March.
