Monster targets government bodies

Initiative builds on US experience

The Monster website has launched a new recruitment offering targeted at government agencies.

The initiative will build on Monster’s experience in working with the US government, which faces similar recruitment problems to its UK counterpart.

Research has indicated that 55% of all US government employees will be eligible for retirement in the next three years. The challenge in the US is to attract high-quality candidates to replace the skills that will be lost when workers retire.

Monster has benefited from the Bush administration’s investment in security. The firm’s clients in the US include intelligence agencies, the naval reserves, the foreign service, customs, immigration and border control.

Monster has found work in similar areas in the UK. It already helps MI5 and GCHQ with staffing campaigns and has launched its Monster Government Solutions (MGS) in a bid to target other public-sector organisations.

Phil Owers, director of MGS, said recruiting for intelligence agencies was problematic.

He said: “There is a misconception about what these organisations do and they attract a huge amount of candidates. We have to ensure that they pick out the quality applicants.”

MGS will work by combining Monster’s product offerings to solve a particular department’s recruitment needs. It also provides feedback about how successful the solution has been using Monster’s Performance Cycle product.
